Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky were by far the most successful pairing in Extreme E history, winning the 2023 championship and six races. While their Rosberg X Racing is as dead as XE, they have reunited for the inaugural Extreme H season under the Kristoffersson Motorsport banner.

“The World Cup title in Extreme H is what attracts me the most, but of course it’s difficult and a bit of a gamble since it’s a one-off competition,” commented Kristoffersson. “If you are unlucky, it’s over. I’ve only seen the Extreme H cars once in Scotland, but I don’t know anything about how they are to drive.

“I think it could be good. They’re probably not that different from the Extreme E cars. The sand in Saudi Arabia is not usually my and Mikaela’s favorite, but you just have to prepare yourself and do your very best, to see if it works out.”

Kristoffersson is coming off his eighth FIA World Rallycross championship. While he mainly races for the family team, he’s also done so with other outfits with basically the same success.

He was also the most decorated driver in XE, winning the 2021 and 2023 titles with RXR and nine races total. After claiming the inaugural championship with Molly Taylor, he teamed up with Åhlin-Kottulinsky from 2022 onward.

Åhlin-Kottulinsky spent the 2021 XE season with JBXE before joining RXR. In addition to XE, she also began competing more frequently in rallycross like World and European RX, particularly for KMS.

RXR folded in December, after which Kristoffersson Motorsport decided to take up the void left as Extreme E began transitioning to Extreme H.

“A new challenge is always stimulating,” remarked team manager Nils Andersson. “We are used to handling new situations and have a qualified group to manage it. We want to be where the action is, to see if it opens new doors for the future.

“There will be a few different segments: a special stage, similar to rally; a head-to-head between the teams; and finally, a multi-car race, like in rallycross, similar to how it has been previously in Extreme E.”
