Dalton Shirey has departed Husqvarna after a successful stint that saw him record hat trick each at the Mint 400 Motorcycle Race and the AMA National Hare & Hound Association’s Pro championships.
After competing for Zip-Ty Racing, Shirey became a full-fledged factory rider for Husqvarna’s Rockstar Energy-sponsored team in 2018. On the Husqvarna FX 450, he enjoyed his breakthrough in 2020 when he won both the Mint 400 Motorcycle Race and the NHHA Pro title.
Shirey also pulled off the same feat in 2022 and 2023. Sandwiched in between, he won the Vegas to Reno in 2021.
In March, at what was ultimately his final Mint 400 with Husqvarna Factory Racing, Shirey was initially the fastest rider but received a penalty for course cutting that relegated him to second.
He finished third at the NHHA season finale in Lucerne Valley on Sunday, overcoming a crash to record a podium. It was only his third start of the year after running the first two rounds before injuries kept him on the sideline.
“After 10 years of racing for Husqvarna Motorcycles USA, my chapter with them has come to end,” wrote Shirey. “With 3 National Hare & Hound championships, 3 Mint 400 wins and other accomplishments, I can say I’m proud of what I’ve done with this team.
“The last two years have not been ideal with injury after injury but I’m thankful for the support I had. Still trying to figure out my next chapter in racing but I do know I’m not done yet. Until then just gotta continue getting stronger!”
