On Saturday and Sunday, the Japan Mobility Show’s Performance Zone will be the site of the Heavyweight Rally LIVE 2025. Set to take place on Saturday from 3:30 PM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10:30 AM to noon, it is a demonstration of various SUVs and pickup trucks alongside rally raid vehicles.
Akira Miura, Takahiro Kitami and navigator Masahiko Kihara, Kazuto Koide, and Teruhito Sugawara will host the event by doing demo laps in their respective vehicles.
Miura is the lead driver for Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body, who has brought their Dakar Stock-winning Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport. The team has developed a new Land Cruiser for the 2026 Dakar.
Koide will be demoing the Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero that Hiroshi Masuoka drove to victory at the 2002 Arras–Madrid–Dakar Rally. It is one of two Pajeros that Team Mitsubishi Ralliart has brought to JMS, alongside the Pajero Evolution that Patrick Zaniroli used to win the 1985 Dakar. Koide is a mechanic for Ralliart who’s in a competition-slash-support role for his teammates at the Asia Cross Country Rally. Masuoka is currently Ralliart’s team manager.
Sugawara will drive the #511 HINO 500 that his father Yoshimasa raced in the 2018 Dakar. It was the older Sugawara’s 35th and penultimate Dakar. The HINO 500 that Yoshimasa raced in the 2019 edition is on display at JMS.
Kitami races a Toyota HiAce in Japan’s cross-country championship.
