Imre Varga has been at the Africa Eco Race on an on-and-off basis since 2020, but has made the last three editions. Unfortunately, 2026 is looking to be an off year against his wishes.

Recent flooding in his garage destroyed his Toyota Hilux Overdrive. With only a month until the race begins, he’s desperate to find a replacement car or he faces missing out.

“When you take a fully finished, race-prepared car out for a final shakedown test and setup, and a washout that appears out of nowhere wipes out the possibility of competing in the race — that’s when you know you’re in serious trouble,” Varga commented.

“The Africa Eco Race 2026, which until now felt close, has suddenly become very distant. Due to the lack of time and the extent of the damage, it is impossible for the car to be ready in time.”

A regular in the Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship, Varga Racing Team has competed at the AER since 2020. After retiring in their debut, Varga and navigator József Toma finished second in T1 at the 2022 edition. They were third in class in 2024 and fourth in January’s race, the latter seeing them place third for T1.1 cars.

Varga has also appeared at the Morocco Desert Challenge, finishing fifth in T1.1 in April’s event.

“We are looking exclusively for a Toyota Hilux Overdrive, fully race-ready and available for rental from January 2026 until February 20, 2026,” Varga continued.

“If you know of such a car, please let us know. All solutions are of interest.”
