The Africa Eco Race will now start two days later than hoped. After Sunday’s Prologue was canceled due to shipping delays caused by Storm Harry, the cyclone has now forced Stage 1 on Monday to be called off as well.

While Storm Harry has mostly wreaked havoc on southern Italy and Sardinia, its effects also extend into northern Morocco.

The boat ferrying vehicles and vital scrutineering equipment safely made it to Tangier, but the storm has made it impossible for teams to get to the bivouac. Organizers are also struggling with securing the race’s logistics, with inspection on Saturday running far behind schedule.

In the interim, a ceremonial start is planned for Sunday.

Stage 1 was supposed to be an 89-kilometer run from Tangier to Bousaïd.
