Genesis might not be known as an off-road brand outside of occasionally doing special packages for its SUVs, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t interest. On Tuesday, the South Korean marque revealed what it called its “first extreme off-road vehicle” with the X Skorpio Concept.

As the name suggests, it is just a concept vehicle. However, the unveiling also comes in tandem with a series of off-road concept packages for the existing GV60, GV70, and GV80.

“The X Skorpio concept is an extreme off-road vehicle designed to be driven across the toughest and harshest terrain,” Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke stated. “With a tubular frame, a full roll cage and many components sourced directly from off-road endurance racing specialists, the X Skorpio Concept explores yet another facet of the Genesis brand and highlights our intent to inject emotion and adrenaline into different segments.”

The exterior of the car is inspired by that of a black scorpion, such as the arches being analogized to a scorpion’s tail and the bodywork to the exoskeleton. The interior, on the other hand, is not unlike those of Genesis’ usual luxury cars.

It uses a V8 engine that produces 1,100 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. The car also comes with 18-inch beadlock wheels, 40″ tires, and Brembo brakes. An integrated roll cage is included along with a four-point harness system.

The X Skorpio Concept underwent testing in the Emirati side of the Empty Quarter desert. The Middle East, given its vast deserts and dune bashing scene, was also cited by Genesis as a market it wants to tap into with these off-road luxury vehicles.

“We create concept cars to inspire and ignite authentic passion for our vision,” Donckerwolke explained. “They are designed to deepen the emotional connection with our customers by showcasing the ultimate desirability they’ve always dreamt of. At Genesis, we craft cars that drive emotional expansion, showcasing not only our design philosophy but also the future technologies that personalize and elevate lifestyles.

“By aligning our designs with these qualities, Genesis aims to foster emotional connections with customers, generate valuable feedback and solidify our position as an industry leader in luxury automotive innovation. Each concept is a signal of what’s possible, a glimpse into the DNA of Genesis’ future.”
