Sébastien Delaunay has left his post as the race director of the Carta Rallye and Baja Morocco.
“For five years, I created and shaped this event for you, understanding your expectations and sharing your passion,” he wrote on Wednesday. “Together, we made it one of the most beloved races on the calendar. I’m proud of that.
“I’m not leaving the Baja. It was taken away from me. My partner made other choices. Commitments weren’t kept, nor were promises. Words have meaning.
“In this world, there are those who do it for the love of the sport, and those who end up seeing only something else. I know what it’s like to be in a race car, and the safety of the competitors will never be a compromise.”
He did not specify the broken agreements with his fellow organizers.
The Carta Rallye and Baja Morocco are sister races, the former set to have its tenth running in 2026 and the latter its fifth. As the race director, Delaunay was responsible for outlining the regulations and overseeing course recces.
Although no longer overseeing the two races, he will still be in Morocco to organize tests and help train navigators, while teasing “other racing projects”. He also works as the navigator for Dania Akeel, the two finishing eighth in Challenger at this year’s Dakar Rally.
