C.J. Greaves is on the mend after undergoing knee surgery, though it’s currently hard to say if he’ll recover in time for the start of the 2026 Championship Off-Road season in May.
“We’re about a month away from being able to get back to walking,” Greaves explained two weeks after the procedure. “Right now, we’re just hobbling around on the crutches, so we got a little bit of a climb to do here before come race season. We’re not 100% sure when I’m going to strap back in the truck or UTV this year, but to say the least, I will be back at some point this year and ready to throw it down.
“We want to make sure this thing is 100%. We’ve had multiple MRIs on it and thought we knew exactly what was going on and went in there and had surgery. Once they got in there, they found a little bit of extra stuff that we weren’t aware of and they weren’t as well.
“We’re on the road to recovery. We want to get this thing good and strong before I do anything stupid and end up back in the same boat.”
The surgery took place a week after he competed in the Can-Am UTV Hammers Championship at King of the Hammers. Driving for RZR Factory Racing, he was taken out of contention by a steering failure but continued on as a service car for teammate Brock Heger, who finished third.
Greaves is coming off winning Championship Off-Road’s Pro 4 title for the fifth year in a row. While he doesn’t need to run every race to win the title, missing the season opener in Wheatland on May 1–3 or Antigo at the end of the month will obviously put him in an early hole.
