Kyle Chaney has been tackling the world’s biggest off-road races with startling efficiency. Two months after making his Dakar Rally debut, he will compete in the Mint 400 for the first time when he runs the Limited Race on Friday.
“Everybody said this is an awesome race to do and I heard the track is super technical and rough,” he told Tiffany Stone on Wednesday. “I want to go out there with this Can-Am and win.
“We did some testing after KOH with this car and it’s really good. We’re ready to go and we’re ready to win.”
When not racing his Pro 4 over the summer, Chaney can be found behind the wheel of a Can-Am Maverick R. 2025 in particular proved to be a whirlwind year in both. After becoming the first UTV driver to win the King of the Hammers’ Race of Kings, he narrowly lost the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run in what many consider the craziest finish in short course history.
Come October, he was back in the Maverick R for his maiden World Rally-Raid Championship start at the Rallye du Maroc, where he finished fifth in SSV. Chaney was then part of Can-Am Factory Team for his Dakar debut in January. Despite being taken out of contention by tire failures, he was still able to finish an impressive second in class behind fellow American Brock Heger from rival Polaris.
After Dakar, Chaney returned to Hammers but ended up on his side and one of the 80 DNFs.
Chaney and Heger will do battle once more on Friday, where the latter is the defending Limited Race overall winner.
