Jerett Brooks stunned the short course world when he announced his retirement at the end of the 2022 season, just after winning the Championship Off-Road Pro 2 title. While he’s occcasionally returned to the driver’s seat in the years since, he is content with his current role as a dad supporting his six-year-old son Roxen.
Likewise, Roxen is keen on continuing the family’s off-road legacy. Besides his dad, his grandfathers and mother Aspen are also former racers.
The Mint 400 Youth Races marked Roxen’s first time competing in the desert after trying out dirt and BMX bikes as well as go-karts. He was stuck on the sideline for much of 2025 with a broken arm before returning to action in January at Glen Helen, scoring three podiums and a win in four races. He also ran the Championship Off-Road Racing weekend there a month later.
Roxen drove a Polaris RZR in the Youth 170 Production class, which had a combination race alongside Youth 200. As the names suggest, the 170cc engines mean the cars in his division aren’t as strong as those in Youth 200. Even then, 170 cars dominated and swept the top 11 positions with Roxen leading all nine laps. Dylan Llamosas, who won Youth 170 Production when it was its own race in 2025, finished second.
Jack Gillaspy was the highest finishing Youth 200 car in 12th. He also walked away with a second trophy as he cleared the four-person Youth 570 race on Friday, a strong rebound after getting disqualified from 200 last year.
Youth 170 Open and Youth 250 also had a joint race that Paxton Grinolds won for the latter with Kyson Christensen right behind. Zeppelin Ledbetter rounded out the podium in a 170. Paxton also won Kids 170cc at King of the Hammers in February.
Landon Morrow dominated in Youth 1000 with Cameron Leaming and Paxton’s brother Korbin right behind.
