Janey Lee and Kylie Walton are undergoing treatment at a hospital in San Diego after the fuel cell exploded while pre-running for Saturday’s San Felipe 250 on Tuesday.

During the pre-run through San Felipe, the fuel cell located under Lee’s seat suddenly burst into flames Walton, who was co-driver, freed her from her belts and pulled her out before the fire engulfed their Can-Am.

Monster Energy and Terrible Herbst Motorsports arranged a private jet for the two to be flown back to the United States, and were brought to a burn unit in San Diego.

“This morning, SCORE International officials became aware of an accident involving two competitors with their pre-run vehicle in San Felipe,” begins a statement from the sanctioning body. “Both are currently stable and receiving medical care.

“Thanks to the rapid response of those nearby, they received initial treatment locally before being transported to the United States for further emergency care.

“This sport is built on a tight community, and moments like this are felt across all of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families, and their teams.”

Outside of racing, Lee and Walton work as Monster Energy Girls. They made their SCORE debuts at the 2025 Baja 400, finishing seventh in Pro Stock UTV, before Lee was the navigator for Donald Cerrone at the Baja 1000. In February, they did double duty as Monster Girls and raced the Toyo Tires Desert Challenge at King of the Hammers, where they placed fifth for UTV Pro Stock Turbo.
