As the fallout from Toby Price’s San Felipe 250 disqualification continues, co-driver Brent Bauman resigned from his role on Monday night.
“Following the release of the CRB findings by SCORE International today and the preliminary findings of our internal investigation I have been offered Brent Bauman’s resignation,” said Paul Weel. “This has been accepted effective immediately. I have invested significantly in this team and will continue to hold it to a high standard. I understand that Brent is enduring significant personal circumstances at present and wish him all the best in dealing with this going forward.”
Bauman was implicated in the investigation by SCORE’s Competition Review Board, working alongside Price to stack rocks on the course the Friday before the race. He then called the shots for Price and Weel on Saturday as their #46 Trophy Truck finished eighth in class and 17th overall. The CRB disqualified them the next day for unsportsmanlike conduct, and SCORE upheld the verdict on Monday.
Jason Duncan, the navigator for San Felipe overall winner Luke McMillin, revealed Bauman had been telling other racers that Duncan was the one putting the rocks on track.
“I feel bad for Toby because he was involved, but he didn’t stop Brent from doing it and I’m taking it personal because we would have been the first ones to those rocks and it would’ve hurt either the truck or us,” Duncan commented. “That is not how we race. We are all friends, so I thought.”
Bauman had been part of Team Australia since 2024. He was the navigator for the team’s maiden win at that year’s Baja 500.
Weel, who was not involved with the course sabotage, launched his own internal investigation following the DSQ.
