With the W2RC calendar now boasting two races with a vintage category, the Classic Series Trophy has been created as a mini-championship of sort.
Teams competing in both the inaugural Rallye du Maroc Classic and the 2027 Dakar Classic will be eligible for the trophy. While not part of the World Rally-Raid Championship, it is the closest thing to a title for vintage raiders. The trophy will be awarded during the final podium ceremony for the 2027 Dakar.
The Classics are a new feature on the Rallye du Maroc program, following the same regularity format and and having the same classes as the Dakar Classic. Pro Dunes, the new organizer of the RdM, wanted to offer an event that could serve as a dress rehearsal for those going to Dakar, similar to the main RdM’s role for the Dakar Rally.
The RdM Classic will also have a Road to Dakar that works similarly to the one used by the W2RC. All Classic drivers who have never raced Dakar can take part, with the winner earning a 50% discount off their 2027 Dakar Classic entry fee.
Ironically, both additions better align the Rallye du Maroc with Dakar even though it’s no longer overseen by Dakar director David Castera’s ODC Event. Pro Dunes, a consortium led by Marc Coma, assumed operational duties following the 2025 RdM.
The Rallye du Maroc will take place from September 26 to October 3. It is the penultimate race of the W2RC schedule.
