The inaugural Rallye du Maroc Classic will follow the same rules as the Dakar Classic, including the restriction that all cars and trucks entered must be built before 2005.
However, it will also permit those produced after 2005 as part of an Open category.
It is in the same spirit as the main Rallye du Maroc’s Open division, which is for vehicles that don’t comply with FIA regulations. The RdM Classic will also mirror the regular rally with its own Road to Dakar, awarding a 50% discount in 2027 Dakar Classic registration fees to the challenge winner.
Open teams will be separated into their own classification, but otherwise must follow the same regularity race format and rulebook as everyone else. The ASO must also approve their entries.
“The Rallye du Maroc Classic stands out as the only competition faithful to the spirit and rules of the Dakar Classic,” reads a statement from the organizers. “A true race within a race, primarily dedicated to pre-2005 rally-raid vehicles. But true to its pioneering spirit, the Rallye du Maroc is also opening its doors: an Open category will allow newer vehicles to come and discover this unique adventure, with a dedicated classification.
“Same participants, same rules. The Rallye du Maroc Classic is now the only Classic race that truly prepares you for the Dakar Classic.”
The RdM Classic and Dakar Classic comprise the Classic Series Trophy, essentially a new vintage raid championship. The former was introduced in January by new RdM organizer Pro Dunes.
