Portugal has a rich rally raid history as one of the discipline’s biggest hotbeds in Europe. As the years pass and the sport evolves, however, X-Adventure took issue with seeing the beasts of yesteryear put up for sale or cast off into garages and private collections, never again to see the light of day.

That changes in 2026 as X-Adventure partnered with the FPAK to create X-Offroad. After a trial run in 2025, the inaugural four-race season will begin on May 16 in Mangualde.

The series is reserved for T8, T9, T0, and TA vehicles. T8 and T9 are further divided into Classic and Pre-Classic divisions. This means makes that get to shine include the UMM Alter and Protumble, Suzuki Vitara, and the Toyota Land Cruiser that previously starred in the ’90s and 2000s.

Rather than multi-day events like what is seen in the CPTT, races will take place on just one day in a single large course divided into timed sections. This is to ensure the vehicles can still race at competition speeds but without pushing them too much.

X-Offroad was unveiled in May 2025. A test race was held on July 12 in Couço as part of the Festival Off-Road e Trial Couço. It was an undercard to the off-road trial put on the next day by CISET 4×4, another X-Adventure series. X-Adventure also runs the Super SSV Trophy and X-Trophy; Super SSV is the only UTV-based championship in Portugal.

Other partners include Imagens Desportivas and Rally-Raid Network. The latter has closely followed the project since its reveal.

“It is with great satisfaction that we finally see a long-held dream come to life: bringing X-Offroad onto the field as a true trophy with multiple events throughout the year,” reads a statement from X-Adventure. “It was a demanding process and not always an easy one, but thanks to strong cooperation with drivers and teams, our partners and also FPAK, it was possible to move forward and turn this idea into reality.

“We now hope that many of the vehicles currently gathering dust in warehouses, workshops and garages across the country will finally return to the dirt. Their time is not over yet, and X-Offroad was created precisely to give them back the place they deserve.”
