The 205 Trophée will celebrate its 20th birthday in 2027, which in turn is also the 40-year anniversary of the Peugeot 205 T16 winning the 1987 Paris–Dakar Rally with Ari Vatanen.

Raid organizers have various festivities and tweaks planned for the occasion, the first of which is replacing the usual red logos and branding with yellow like Vatanen’s Peugeot.

“This anniversary edition won’t be just another raid,” reads a statement from the org. “It’s going to be a celebration. 20 years of passion. 20 years of struggles, mechanics, bivouacs, solidarity, and memories engraved for life.

“Whether you’re a seasoned driver, a youngtimer, or just a dreamer with a 205 in your garage, now is probably the time to join the adventure.”

As the name suggests, the 205 Trophée is a raid solely for the Peugeot 205 series. The inaugural edition was held with six such cars in 2007 to mark 20 years since Vatanen’s win.

A prologue will be held at the Château de Lastours before crossing Spain to the port in Almería to go to Morocco. Stages 7 and 8 will be held under marathon conditions, while an awards ceremony is planned on May 14 after the tenth and final leg in Marrakesh.

There are three route options for participants: Red, which is the normal competition course; Blue, which bypasses some harder sections; and Green, for logistics. Anyone can take either route each day depending on their personal confidence level, and can even switch from Red to Blue at the halfway checkpoint if they’re fatigued or their car has issues.

It is a navigation-based event rather than reliant on speed.

The 2026 edition finished on Friday in Essaouira.
