Penrite Rally Raid Team will bring an Aussie triple threat to the 2027 Dakar Classic by fielding three Mitsubishi Pajero Evolutions.

In total, 13 team personnel are involved to make what might be the “largest Australian team ever to enter the Dakar.”

Robert Cox and Andrew Travis will be in one Pajero, Roland “Bowla” Dymond and Brian McCabe in another, and Thom “Topgun” Bruce and Peter Butler in the third.

Gareth Morgan-Thomas, who used to star in Australia’s rally championships and won races like the Bathurst RSL Club Rally of Bathurst, will oversee the effort as team manager. He’s joined on the crew by head mechanic Dave Glazier along with mechanics Steve Mills, Mike Mills-Thom, Ethan Pickstock, Alan Roe, and George Vergotis. Glazer and Greg Lucas are tasked with building and prepping the cars.

In April, the team entered the Condo 750 navigation rally. The Dymond–McCabe pair finished eighth overall after dealing with mechanical issues, while Bruce and Lisi Pickstock were hampered by brake issues and placed 11th. Cox and Sophie Cox ran as high as fourth before a transfer case failure knocked them out.

R Team will provide technical support. The Italian outfit supported 13 Pajeros in January’s Classic, with Josef Unterholzner and Marco Leva placing third and fourth overall.
