Extreme H team owner Carl Cox has received the prestigious Order of the British Empire as part of the King’s Birthday celebrations. Of course, the recognition is rather for his “services to Music” as an accomplished DJ.
Cox posted the following statement:
I’m absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured to share that I’ve been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
Music has been my life for as long as I can remember. From the earliest days behind the decks to performing on stages around the world, it has been an incredible journey filled with passion, creativity, and unforgettable moments. I’ve been fortunate to do what I love and to connect with so many amazing people through the power of music.
This recognition is not mine alone – it belongs to everyone who has been part of the journey. To the fans who have supported me throughout the years, the artists who have inspired and collaborated with me, the promoters, crews, and teams working tirelessly behind the scenes, my family, friends, and the wider electronic music community: thank you. Your belief, dedication, and energy have helped shape every step of this remarkable path.
To receive this honour for doing something that has brought me so much joy is truly humbling. Electronic music has given me a purpose, a voice, and a global family, and I’m proud to have played a part in its growth and continued success.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement has meant the world to me, and I’m genuinely grateful for every opportunity, every dancefloor, and every shared experience. Oh yes, oh yes!
Since starting his music career in the 1980s, Cox has become one of the most successful disc jockeys in the business, specializing in techno and trance music. He’s received 16 DJ Awards, two DJ Magazine Awards, and five International Dance Music Awards, among several other accolades.
Being an avid racing fan, he has overseen Carl Cox Motorsport since 2013. The team initially started in motorcycle racing and also fields a drag racing division. Earlier in June, the three-round Carl Cox Motorsports Series drag racing championship made its debut at Santa Pod Racing.
CCM expanded into Extreme E in 2023, finishing ninth in points with Timo Scheider, Christine GZ, and Lia Block. Scheider and GZ scored a best finish of third overall at the first Hydro X Prix. The team took 2024 off as XE began its transition to Extreme H before returning for the Extreme E Final Lap and inaugural XH World Cup.
Scheider rejoined the team while Klara Andersson came aboard as the female driver. They ranked eighth and last in the XE Final Lap, but rebounded by finishing second in the XH World Cup.
“Congratulations to Carl Cox, pioneering DJ and owner of Extreme H team Carl Cox Motorsport, who has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the King’s Birthday Honours List, for his outstanding contribution to music,” reads a statement from the series.
