Bikes are slated to return for the NORRA 500 in October, but there is a catch: at least 20 must be registered by August 14.
Despite frequent requests to include them, NORRA has struggled to get bike participation up at races. To motivate riders to sign up, the sanctioning body often sets quotas that would guarantee bike categories. The 2025 NORRA 500, the race’s first edition with bikes since 2021, brought them back after hitting the ten-team minimum.
However, questions have once again surrounded the future of two-wheelers at NORRA after just 17 competed in May’s Mexican 1000. Bike director Jimmy Lewis and his crew are keen on making sure the class survives, but the ball is still in everyone’s court to show up.
A $250 deposit is required upon registration. If the 20-bike quota is not met, they will be fully refunded.
“The return of motorcycles to the NORRA 500 gives riders another opportunity to experience Baja the way it was meant to be raced: wide open, heads-up, and against the clock,” reads a statement from NORRA. “From the Pacific coastline to the mountain backroads of Baja California, every mile is designed to reward skill, strategy, and endurance.
“If you’ve been waiting for the right excuse to get back to Baja, this is it. Rally your friends, spread the word, and help bring motorcycle racing back to the NORRA 500.”
“The countdown is on. Twenty bikes. One deadline. Baja is waiting.”
Sign-ups open on July 15.
