Josep García is undeniably the top rider in the FIM Enduro World Championship, which naturally means he’s bound to make some history. With a dominant showing at the GP of France, he secured both his fourth straight Enduro1 title and third EnduroGP crown in a row.

The latter makes him just the second rider in series history to win the overall title three consecutive years in a row. Juha Salminen is the only other rider to do so as he five-peated the overall from 2000 to 2004.

García has dominated the Enduro World Championship, winning every round in Enduro1 to easily clinch the title a weekend early. EnduroGP, which combines the three categories from Enduros 1 through 3, was a bit closer but not by much as García finished on the podium in every event.

While García has dominated EnduroGP, he wants to make it clear that he isn’t just cruising to the victory every time. He stressed after winning in Portugal that “with the level of competition in EnduroGP right now, it’s so difficult to put together a perfect weekend”.

His KTM teammate Andrea Verona sits second in EnduroGP points and is trying to stave off a challenge from Zach Pichon for the Enduro2 lead going into the season finale in Britain.

“It’s an incredible feeling to leave France as both the 2026 EnduroGP and Enduro1 World Champion,” García stated. “Winning both titles with one round still to go is something I’m really proud of, and taking the overall victory today made it even more special. I feel like I’ve taken another big step forward this season, both with my riding and as a racer, and that’s down to all the hard work from everyone around me.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the whole team for everything they’ve done this year. Now it’s time to enjoy these titles and head to Wales looking to finish the season on a high.”

Like García, Salminen’s reign came on a KTM. What was then the World Enduro Championship had an overall trophy from 1998 to 2004 that functioned similar to EnduroGP before the championship format was replaced by the current one with no overarching title. EnduroGP was introduced in 2017.

Giovanni Sala won the inaugural overall championship in 1998 followed by Petteri Silván, then Salminen started putting on his clinic. Each year during his run, Salminen raced a different KTM bike: 1225cc in 2000, 250cc in 2001, 400cc in 2002, 500cc in 2003, and the Enduro2 bike in 2004.
