In January, Rémy Moreau finally made a childhood dream come true when he lined up at the start for the Dakar Rally.

As much as he’d like to do it again in 2027, he will not. Moreau confirmed on Thursday that he won’t be part of the race.

He wrote on social media:

That’s it… The rider lineup for the 2027 Dakar has been announced.

My name isn’t on the list this year, so I’ll be experiencing the Dakar from the other side of the screen, inevitably with a twinge of sadness.

After having the chance to experience this incredible adventure in 2026, it’s difficult not to feel a sense of loss. But the Dakar remains a race that inspires dreams, and I’ll be following all the riders with great admiration.

I wish them all a magnificent adventure. And who knows… perhaps our paths will cross again on the tracks one day.

Moreau qualified for the 2026 Dakar via the 2023 Rallye du Maroc and 2024 Rally-Raid Portugal, respectively finishing 61st and 21st in Rally2. Although he didn’t do a W2RC race in 2025, he finished 17th overall (12th for 450cc bikes) at the Carta Rallye; while reaching the finish in multiple W2RC starts is usually enough to earn an acceptance letter, Carta being a week-long desert rally further bolstered his credentials.

He raced Dakar with Nomade Racing. The race began without much issue save for a navigation error and a coil getting stuck in his wheel in Stage 3. In Stage 9, he had to take the exhaust apart due to a mechanical issue eight kilometers in.

Otherwise, the rally was a solid experience as he finished 57th in Rally2. His best run was 51st in Stage 12.

Outside of racing, he works for the family’s winemaking business Champagne Jean Moreau.
