Vincent Biau had hoped to run the 2026 Dakar Rally on his Suzuki DR-Z4S, but that plan was aborted after his crash in the 2025 Baja Morocco.

Since recovered and riding again, he confirmed Friday that he has been accepted for the 2027 Dakar. He will compete solo in the Original by Motul subcategory.

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” he explained. “Physically, my body underwent some unplanned minor ‘technical modifications’… Mentally, I had to rediscover my drive to go on another adventure.

“But one thing never changed: my objective. To participate in the world’s most difficult rally raid in the Malle Moto category, with my Suzuki DR-Z4S.”

Biau’s accident resulted in several fractures to his vertebrae and ribs, leaving him bedridden for three weeks. Since the Baja Morocco was just two months before the 2026 Dakar, he had to call off his entry for that race while he recovered.

He was riding again by early April. Come July, he received his 2027 Dakar acceptance letter from the ASO.

“A bit of a crazy project? Certainly,” he continued. “A difficult adventure? Without a doubt.

“But then again… if it were easy, everyone would do it!”

His DR-Z4S will be the first Suzuki bike to race Dakar since Roberto Vecco entered the 2019 edition on an RM-Z450, though the manufacturer has a rich history dating back to the inaugural Paris–Dakar in 1979. Biau usually races a Suzuki V-Strom 800DE in non-FIM rallies like the Africa Eco Race, where he finished 13th in Multi-Cylinder last year.

Biau finished 58th in Rally2 and 15th in Malle Moto at his Dakar Rally debut in 2024.
