For the second year in a row, Tavo Vildósola will not race the Baja 400. Unlike 2025 where personal reasons kept him sidelined, his 2026 absence stems from injuries sustained in a crash at the Baja Nevada in June.

Vildósola had been the fastest Unlimited Trophy Truck in the Legacy Racing event, only to roll his truck on the first day between Mesquite and Tonopah. He initially thought he was unscathed save for soreness before discovering he had suffered far worse. He credits his HANS device with having “literally saved my life”.

“I’m working with [series] to try and make these HANS devices available for those of us who absolutely love racing, but for some reason or another can’t race with one of these or don’t race with one of these,” he continued.

While the 400 isn’t until September 9–13, doctors did not medically clear him to race. Vildósola also noted Friday that he is “most likely not going […] in a supportive role either”.

Still, he does intend to be at the Baja 1000 in November “in some capacity”.

Vildósola’s 2026 began with a runner-up overall finish in the San Felipe 250 before an engine failure knocked him out of the Baja 500.
