It’s been a while since Paul Morris competed for a championship. The last time he raced on a full-time basis was the shortened 2021 Boost Mobile Super Trucks season, where he won the title. Before that, his last full campaign was in 2017 when he claimed the Stadium Super Trucks crown.

Four years after his last dance, Morris will pursue another title as he plans to do the entire V8 SuperUte Series schedule in 2025. He will race the #67 Ford Ranger for Scott Taylor Motorsport.

While Morris is more than familiar with the Supercars Championship and its support series (SST included), this is his first time competing in the SuperUtes.

Morris was a Supercars regular before stepping away after 2011, continuing in a part-time capacity that was highlighted by winning the 2014 Bathurst 1000. He began dabbling in SST in 2015, making an impact right out of the gate with two podiums that year. “The Dude” became an SST mainstay over the next three years, scoring three wins in 2017 en route to that year’s championship. However, he did not run the season finale at Lake Elsinore and had Jerett Brooks clinch the title in his #67.

On the other hand, Morris ran every race during his 2021 Boost Mobile Super Trucks season. While the calendar was shortened by COVID-19 and the series getting axed amid a Supercars leadership change, he won four times and edged out Shae Davies for the championship on a tiebreaker.

The Boost Mobile Super Trucks were supposed to be SST’s standalone Australian division. Morris’ team, headquartered at the Norwell Motorplex, served as the BMST’s base of operations until the series’ demise. While the trucks returned to Australia last October, Morris was not among those taking part.

Still, he continued to try out other events on one-off bases. Morris was Taylor’s co-driver for a pair of GT World Challenge Australia races in 2024.

Morris will have some familiar company in the SuperUtes as Shaun Richardson, who finished fourth in the 2021 Boost Mobile Super Truck standings, is making his series debut in a Ranger for Sieders Racing. The two will be the fourth and fifth SST drivers to compete in SuperUtes after Toby Price, Craig Dontas, and Dave Casey.

STM opened a SuperUte program during the 2024 season for Taylor. Morris’ son Nash, who raced alongside his father in the 2021 BMST, drove for STM in the Porsche Carrera Cup in 2024 before graduating to the Super2 Series.
