While EBRO is technically a Chinese brand nowadays, it hasn’t forgotten its Spanish roots. In fact, the company has enlisted a Spaniard in Laia Sanz to debut the new EBRO T1+ at the Rallye du Maroc before entering the 2026 Dakar Rally.
EBRO announced Sanz’s signing on Tuesday.
“We could not have imagined a better ambassador for this project,” said EBRO CEO Pedro Calef. “Laia Sanz represents all the values we want to project: spirit of sacrifice, teamwork, bravery, and determination.”
Sanz had been racing cars from Century Racing at Dakar since 2023, a year after making her four-wheel debut in a Mini. Her 2025 race only lasted a single stage because she rolled her Century CR6-T.
Prior to driving, Sanz was the most successful woman to race Dakar on a bike and finished as high as ninth in 2015. 2024 saw her best effort in a car as she placed 15th and third in T1.2.
EBRO revealed its rally raid program in July. While the T1+ will be its first time racing in the premier class, the marque technically already has Dakar experience in the form of an electric truck built for the 2022 Dakar Future (predecessor to Mission 1000). EV Motors, then known as EcoPower, fielded the entry and is currently EBRO’s European distributor.
A revival of the longtime Spanish truck brand, EBRO is jointly operated by Chery Automotive and Nissan, who joined forces to bring back the name in 2024. Both of its parents have history in rally raid, Nissan competing regularly at Dakar in the 1990s and 2000s while Chery does the Taklimakan Rally in its native China.
The EBRO T1+ will debut at the Rallye du Maroc on October 10–17.
