The Baja TT Sharish Gin in Portugal will take place on September 18–20, which has ramifications for the Romanian and Hungarian national championships. Since they already had races planned for that weekend while Sharish Gin takes priority for most competitors because it’s on the FIA European Baja Cup, the Campionatul National de Rally Raid and Magyar Terep-Rallye had to adjust their calendars accordingly.

In Hungary, Magyar Terep-Rallye moved the Nyír1 Baja up a week to September 11–12. It is the penultimate round of the season.

On the other hand, CN Rally Raid had to drop its lone race outside of Romania. The Nyíri Baja Nagykálló, incidentally held in Hungary, was going to be the fourth race of the season on September 18–19. The Baja Nagykálló’s organizers asked to push it back a week to account for Sharish Gin and give Hungarians time after Nyír1, but it was impossible for the Romanians.

A Monday statement from CN Rally Raid explained “such a change would have caused overlaps and imbalances in the structure of the domestic competition season” because most rally raiders’ September and October slates are filled. This time of year is often when the final rounds for most series take place, including prepping for next year and the Dakar Rally.

On the other hand, the Comisia Națională de Rally Raid noticed a two-month gap between the season opener and Baja Satu Mare that was ripe for the replacement date. Hungary couldn’t accommodate because of the Riverside Baja, so they created a new race called the Baja Borsec.

Sharish Gin is the second-to-last race for the 2026 European Baja Cup. João Ferreira won the latest edition last September.
