James Dean and his brother Jordan were planning on racing the Mint 400 this weekend, but had to call the entry off after rebuilding their truck and uncovering some “small troubles”.

“We want to make sure we are 100% ready and prepared before racing,” Jordan commented. “A little more testing and this truck is ready to win.

“We will be at the next one ready to dance.”

They were slated to compete with Matt Brady and Jason Horton as co-drivers. The brothers and their team had been rebuilding the truck for their first race of 2026. It was a near-total build, one that Jordan noted included installing a new engine and wiring.

In 2024, Jordan shared a SPEC truck with Jack Olliges and the two finished 21st in class (32nd overall). Olliges is signed up for this year’s Mint alongside his dad Steve.

Jordan also split the truck with the younger Olliges in 2025, finishing second in Trophy Truck Spec at the Baja 1000.

It’s certainly a shame for the family to miss the Mint too due to their rich history in the Las Vegas area. The Deans run Butch’s Speed Shop, which was founded in 1968 by their grandfather and first-generation racer Butch Dean.

Had they been able to take part, they’d be lining up for the Unlimited Race on Saturday.
