After four years and three Dakar Rallies together, Michael Docherty and BAS World KTM Racing Team have parted ways.

“It’s always something special to see our riders step up and take the next big leap in their careers, and we couldn’t be prouder to have been part of that journey for Michael Docherty,” the team stated on Wednesday.

“Michael has been a huge part of the BAS World KTM Racing Team, bringing not only incredible speed and determination, but also an energy in the bivouac. With multiple stage wins and standout performances, he’s played a major role in the team’s success and growth over the past seasons.

“Thank you for your effort and time, Michael. We wish you nothing but success in this next chapter. We’ll be cheering you on all the way.”

Docherty joined BAS World in 2023 after finishing third in Rally2 at that year’s Dakar Rally on a Husqvarna with HT Rally Raid. He was seventh in class at the Desafío Ruta 40, then retired from the 2024 Dakar when he crashed on the first stage. He notched a third at the 2024 Rallye du Maroc.

He finished third in the 2025 W2RC’s Rally2 standings with a win at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. However, his Abu Dhabi entries came with SRG Motorsports since BAS World doesn’t race in the UAE. Ultimately, Docherty never won a W2RC race for BAS World, but has four podiums and a best run of second in the 2025 Rallye du Maroc.

January’s Dakar was his final start for the team. Although he won nine stages, he was 77th in Rally2 because of a broken wheel eliminating him from overall contention. He didn’t race the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal.
