Pom’Family Racing is putting their 1978 Lada Niva 4×4 up for sale.

On April 12, Nicolas Fantin and his son Lucien brought the car to the Jardin de l’Évêché garden. It was on display alongside over 200 classic cars as part of the Le rencard de Lisieux festival, which also included retro-themed events like music and food stands.

In January, the Fantins made their Dakar Classic debut with the Niva. Despite dealing with a myriad of mechanical troubles, they successfully completed the race finished 88th overall and 68th among cars.

Two weeks after finishing Dakar, they confirmed they won’t be back in 2027 due to the financial strain that getting to this year’s edition took. The Dakar entry was also one half of another major project that they have planned, for which they need time to recoup their losses.

The Lada was purchased in 2024 and restored with the help of Normandy Rétro Prestige. In total, the rebuild cost €25,000.

Placards detailing the Niva’s specs were placed on the windshield to promote it, calling it “ready for a Dakar Classica or other classic rally raid”. While retaining much of the original Lada’s anatomy, it also uses a limited-slip rear axle from a Toyota Hilux and a VAZ-2121 1600cc engine; much of the interior was also gutted and rebuilt for Dakar.
