Erik Van Loon didn’t return to the Dakar Classic in January after debuting a year prior, but he’ll race his Audi S1 Quattro again at the Baja Lorca – Ciudad del Sol this weekend.
Officially, his car is being entered by QFF Racing under the QFF Adventures banner. Unofficially, QFF is also fielding three more Quattros that were previously his teammates at the 2025 Classic. Hans Stacey and Peter van den Bosch are back, while Marcel van Vliet joins the crew.
The Dutch Quattro Legends are a foursome of Group B-style Audis built by Audi Sport Veghel. Van Loon, a Dakar Rally veteran, finished 31st overall at the 2025 Dakar Classic to win the H4 category ahead of van den Bosch (53rd), Stacey (57th), and Frits van Eerd (62nd).
Stacey was the 2007 Dakar Rally’s Truck winner while van den Bosch previously raced a truck at Dakar too. Van Eerd, a sports car racer and entrepreneur, is serving a two-year prison sentence so the Dutch Quattro Legends enlisted van Vliet as his replacement. Like Stacey and van den Bosch, van Vliet has Dakar truck experience.
After the Classic, the team’s occasionally met up for events in their native Netherlands like the 2025 Crazy Cross Bergeijk. Despite the win, Van Loon has little intention of racing Dakar again.
Baja Lorca is part of the Spanish Cross-Country Rally Championship. Van Loon initially planned on spending the weekend racing the ELE Rally alongside his wife Anja, but the rally dropped the WRC class for 2026. Anja will still go to the ELE in a Renault Clio Rally3.
“The ELE Rally is my home rally, and I always look forward to participating every year,” said Van Loon. He usually races a Subaru Impreza in the event.
“Then, the opportunity arose to race the Dakar Audi in Spain. That is, of course, incredibly cool as well. I’m not familiar with the Baja Lorca otherwise, so I’m heading there primarily to enjoy the experience.”
The Quattros are entered in the Baja Lorca’s Open class. A prologue stage will take place on Friday followd by two specials on Saturday.
