The Baja 500 marks the beginning of a new era for Paul Weel and his crew. After Team Australia went down in flames following its controversial San Felipe disqualification, Paul Weel Motorsport has risen from the ashes with a new name, a new teammate, a new truck, and a new sponsor.

PWM unveiled its new #11 Trophy Truck on Tuesday. With Red Bull following Toby Price out the door, another extreme sports-oriented beverage maker in Drink Weird has come aboard as the primary sponsor.

The truck is the brand-new Gen-2 AWD Trophy Truck by Mason Motorsports, which features updates like a new fuel cell location, transmission and transaxle, and weight distribution. Durability and performance were the main points of emphasis in building the truck, such that Mason hopes it can do a race like the Baja 500 on just one pit stop. Weel and Bryce Menzies’ team are among the first to get the truck before it will be rolled out to customers in 2027.

MacCachren joined Weel’s revitalized project in April, bringing with him his #11 numberplate that replaced the #46. Andrew Ortiz will serve as their navigator.

Team Australia, who won the Baja 500 in 2024, was disqualfied from the San Felipe 250 after Price and co-driver Andrew Bauman were caught sabotaging the course in pre-running. Both tendered their resignations from the team in the wake of the penalty as Weel launched an internal investigation. With his main partner gone, Weel rebuilt the operation under his own name before recruiting MacCachren, one of the greatest racers in off-road history.
