Chris Hemsworth’s Wild State is set to work on a feature film about the Finke Desert Race, one of several planned projects surrounding the event by the production company.
One such project is an unscripted program focusing on Robbie Maddison, who will trade in his bike for an Extreme 4WD truck in his Finke debut. He will share the Geiser Bros truck with Jake Williams, who’ll pilot the #437 in the Prologue and first two days before Maddison takes over for the third; Alby Harris will navigate for both drivers.
Maddison is an X Games Best Trick medalist who’s also competed in Nitro Rallycross.
“The whole way this came together is just mindblowing,” said Maddison. “Last November, Jake and I were catching up at the final round of the Australian Supercross Championships at the Adelaide 500. I was talking with Chris right after that, and the idea just started snowballing.
“To go from a casual chat in Adelaide, to flying back from the States in February for our first proper test at Loveday 4×4 Adventure Park, to now seeing the actual reality of it for Finke’s 50th anniversary is awesome. It’s easily one of the coolest projects I’ve ever been a part of.”
Hemsworth is one of Australia’s most decorated actors today, perhaps best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s no stranger to racing productions either, having starred as James Hunt in the acclaimed 2013 film Rush.
He co-founded Wild State alongside writer Ben Grayson. Ricky Staub and Dan Walser are also onboard for the Finke projects as writers.
“Off-road racing has been a passion in my family for a long time,” Hemsworth stated. “We at Wild State are thrilled to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race on the eve of its 50th anniversary and bring this epic competition to a global audience.”
