After two years away, Toby Price is back at the Finke Desert Race. On Wednesday, Glenn Brinkman announced Price will fill in for him in the #6104 Can-Am Maverick R while he recovers from injury.
Price is the most successful competitor in Finke Desert Race history, having won on a bike six times and thrice in a truck. His nine combined victories are the most by any person.
He hasn’t raced Finke since winning for the third year in a row in 2023 as he turned his focus to SCORE, whose Baja 500 clashes with Finke. Price wanted to run the 2026 Finke since it’s the 50-year anniversary, but said last December that he couldn’t due to the conflict with the 500.
The opening ultimately arose in unfortunate circumstances when Price was disqualified from the San Felipe 250 in March. The fallout from the DSQ prompted Price to take a hiatus from Baja, meaning a return there is murky but that he now has time to go back to Finke. His SCORE teammate Paul Weel has since moved on too, reforming their Team Australia into Paul Weel Motorsport.
Brinkman and Price both raced the Dakar Rally together in 2024. The latter did this year’s race in January with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The #6104 will compete in the SxS Pro class.
