Crandon International Raceway announced Tuesday that the starting area has officially been renamed the “Walker Evans Land Rush”.
Signage had initially been introduced at the Crandon World Cup last September, which was held just a month after the legend’s passing. Walker enjoyed tremendous success in desert racing and short course, the latter including winning the Crandon World Cup in Heavy Metal in 1990 and 1991. Jack Flannery was one of his main rivals at Crandon, and whose brother Cliff currently owns the track.
“Walker Evans wasn’t just a champion racer. He was one of the most important figures in our history,” Cliff Flannery stated. “His on track accomplishments were only surpassed by his role as our unofficial ambassador. Walker’s legacy will now remain forever connected to the place he loved so much.”
Before Evans’ passing, the land rush sign simply beared the name of whoever sponsored it. Steel-It Coatings held the naming rights at the 2025 Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run held three months before the World Cup, dubbing it the “Steel-It Starting Line”.

The Walker Evans Land Rush sign is painted to resemble his iconic blue-and-white trucks with red, orange, and yellow striping. The star at the center also has his likeness.
The 2026 Brush run will take place on June 20–21.
