Gazelles Offroad Team has been invited to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, where their 1988 Land Rover 110—nicknamed “Purdey”—will represent the Dakar Classic at the Off-Road Arena.
“It has been so unbelievably hard not to say anything about this before, but finally we can tell you that we have been invited to Festival of Speed, which is a proper ‘OMG’ moment, and we are beyond excited,” Helen Tait Wright and Marcella Kirk posted on Thursday. “We will be there in the Dakar bivouac at the Offroad Arena, representing Dakar Classic, and we are looking forward to being a small part of this incredibly prestigious event. Just wow.”
As its name suggests, the Off-Road Arena at Goodwood House is where off-road vehicles like rally cars can showcase themselves in a more natural environment than pavement. Rally raid vehicles have certainly appeared at Goodwood in the past, with Ford even revealing their Raptor T1+ at the 2024 Festival of Speed, but the FOS wanted to expand this theme for 2026.
For this year’s festival, organizers have introduced a separate category solely for Dakar machinery past and present. Purdey and any other Classic invitees, of course, fall under the former.
2026 was Wright and Kirk’s first Classic, finishing 83rd overall and 12th in H1.A. With how costly the project was, they plan on taking 2027 off before returning in 2028. Still, they’d like to do other vintage rallies with Purdey in the meantime like the Rallye du Maroc Classic.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is scheduled for July 9–12.
