After three years, the FIM Sand Races World Championship is entering a new era design- and rules-wise. On Friday, the series announced updated brand guidelines that includes a new logo along with tweaked sporting regulations that include a new FIM Team Trophy and a full-time switch to Endurance rules.
The new logo replaces the one used since the series’ formation as the FIM Sand Races World Cup in 2023.
Every race will be run under the Endurance format, as opposed to previous years when each round could pick that or Sand Cross. An Endurance weekend consisting of just one race stipulates said event must be between one-and-a-half and three hours in length for Moto, at least 1:30 for Junior, between 1:30 and 2:30 for Quad, and at most two-and-a-half hours for Vintage.
If the weekend has two races, each must be the same length and span at least 60 minutes for the Moto class without exceeding three hours in total. The same rule applies for the lower categories, with Junior mandating at least 30 minutes each and a two-hour max, 45 minutes minimum and 2:30 max in Quad, and 30-minute duration per VIntage race with two hours at most.
Sand Cross, by contrast, consisted of multiple shorter races. In Moto, these could be two or three races of at least 20 minutes. Junior had a fixed rate of three races spanning 15–20 minutes, one to three rounds of 20 minutes apiece for Quad, and 2–3 races for Vintage of the same length.
Teams with a valid FIM license can sign up for the Team Trophy. They msut have at least two riders in either Moto or Quad on the same license. After a race, the points earned by the top two riders on each team goes toward the team championship.
The 2026–27 season begins with the Morocco Sand Race on September 26–27.
