In 2000, Dennis Reinbold’s team stunned the Indy Racing League by winning the Delphi Indy 200 in its first ever race.
RallyX Americas will pay tribute to the late IndyCar and rallycross owner by awarding the Dennis Reinbold 1 of 1 Award. Like what Reinbold Racing and Robbie Buhl pulled off 26 years ago, the award will be given to any driver who wins in their RallyX Americas race debut in any class.
“Dennis Reinbold was truly one of one—a racer and friend unlike any other,” series founder Andreas Eriksson stated. “His belief in the people around him was always strong, and he has been a huge supporter of rallycross through all its forms in North America. This award honors not only his spirit and passion for racing, but also one of his team’s greatest accomplishments, winning an IndyCar race in their first try. We’re excited to give RallyX Americas drivers extra motivation to do the same thing.”
Reinbold co-founded Dreyer & Reinbold Racing with Buhl. Although that was ultimately DRR’s only win in IndyCar, the team was a mainstay before focusing solely on the Indianapolis 500 since 2014. He set up a rallycross arm in 2016 that has competed across every American series such as GRC, ARX, and Nitrocross.
For the fledgling RallyX Americas, DRR had become a series partner overseeing logistics.
The season begins this weekend at Crandon. Since it’s the inaugural RallyX Americas race, both race winners in Hypercar and Supercar will receive the award.
