Since SCORE went to the four-race calendar in 2019, the San Felipe 250 had stuck out like a sore thumb as the only event not named after Baja California. That will change in 2027 as the season opener moves from its namesake city back to Mexicali, becoming the Baja 250.

The location change means things have come full circle for the 250, which began life in the border city between Mexico and the United States. After SCORE was unable to secure permits for the Parker 400, the sanctioning body created the Mexicali 300 in 1978. It was shortened a year later and became the Mexicali 250. In 1982, citing how it had become too dangerous for local residents as the population increased, SCORE moved the race 125 miles south to San Felipe. The SF 250 remained a mainstay since.

Even without a standalone race, SCORE has occasionally returned to Mexicali in the years since. Most notably, it hosted the Baja 1000 in 1993 and 1994.

Pre-running for the Baja 250 will open on March 6, while racing takes place on March 20. Since the race considered a continuation of the Mexicali 300-slash-250 and San Felipe 250, it is officially called the 40th Baja 250.

The three other races remain the same. The 59th Baja 500 is on June 5, followed by the eighth Baja 400 on September 11. Both races are expected to be single-loop races starting and finishing in Ensenada.

As always, the season concludes with the Baja 1000. For the 60th anniversary on November 18–19, the race will begin in Ensenada and head south in a peninsula run. A specific finish location was not immediately revealed.
