Mason Motorsports isn’t the only company with a swanky new second-generation Trophy Truck this summer. Dave Mason Jr. might not be related to Neal and Robert Mason, but his team’s got a Gen-2 truck of their own.

Friday’s Vegas to Reno will mark the competition debut for Mason Off Road’s new TSCO Gen-2 two-wheel-drive truck. Steele and Mason had been racing Geiser Brothers trucks, with which they won the Trophy Truck 2WD class at the Baja 500 in June.

Despite the Geiser’s success, they enlisted John Vance to build a new TSCO truck. Itrelies on a Danzio P600 engine.

One of the changes made from the predecessor is to drill a hole in the middle of the dashboard to allow airflow into the oil cooler, while paneling was installed at the rear to ensure air flowed in the right direction. The hole does not compromise the firewall snce it goes from the hood to the dashboard. This is especially vital when handling the Nevada desert in the dead of summer.

“The Masons are the sharp end of the race-warrior spear in the current field of U.S.-based unlimited truck racing,” Steele stated. “The Masons make it fun and always bring a winning effort to every event.”

Mason had been sidelined for much of spring because of a torn ACL, which forced him to miss the Mint 400. With the leg good to go, he’s back with Steele in the Unlimited Truck 2WD class.

“Stacking legendary races and continuing to win is the goal,” Mason commented. “You have 1,000 horsepower, the potential to run 150 miles an hour, and a truck built to hit three-foot holes at 100 mph. Who wouldn’t want to go battle for a Vegas to Reno win?”
