BRP released the 2027 Can-Am lineup on Monday, along with two concept vehicles based on the Defender and Maverick platforms. Being concept UTVs, neither will be on the assembly line and are rather to “bring Can-Am’s innovative DNA to the forefront”.

“Both of these vehicles encapsulate our design philosophy of innovative product architecture, functionality and emotional appeal,” side-by-side vehicle innovation director Alain Massicotte stated. “For our team, these vehicles are far more than a design exercise. They are an opportunity to reimagine two of our most iconic nameplates, both practically and aesthetically, while exploring the realm of possibilities for the evolution of Can-Am DNA. This is also a great way to spark conversations with our most engaged customer community.”

The Can-Am Defender Prerunner is a 6×6 UTV that takes inspiration from Trophy Trucks and King of the Hammers. As the name suggests, it uses the Defender line of work vehicles as a base, complete with full windshield and windows along with a TT-style LinQ bed. It also comes with 35-inch tires and four Sparco racing seats.

The Can-Am Maverick R XRay riffs on what is touted as the most powerful UTV on the market today. The suffix comes from the doors being translucent panels, exposing a special exoskeleton underneath as an X-ray would. In darkness, backlighting within the panels would glow yellow and red while braking. BRP designed the XRay after the cars that hit the dunes at Glamis, particularly those with bright lights to see in the dark, while also taking some inspiration from fireflies.

“At BRP, we thrive on innovation and ambitious goals,” powersports president Sandy Scullion commented. “Our efforts are sharply focused on becoming the number one brand in off-road and the OEM of choice for dealers around the globe. In order to be a great partner to our dealers, it is critical that we continue to deliver industry-leading products. The Defender Prerunner and the Maverick R XRay are a testament to our innovative DNA and creative excellence.”

As for new releases that you can actually buy, Can-Am developed the Defender XU. It comes in several trims like the base, Lonestar, and X that operate the same as in other models. Being a utility vehicle means it comes with components such as a headache rack that increases storage, an extender for the bed that allows the cargo rack to be installed, and a ball mount for trailers.

The Defender family as a whole comes with a new five-inch color gauge display, while the Limited, X mr, and Lonestar variants have a 10.25″ wireless touchscreen. The HD10 has a new 80-horsepower Rotax triple-cylinder engine.

Meanwhile, all 2027 Maverick Rs will have integrated window nets and stronger steel-braided brake lines. The Maverick X3 has door fillers with the RS and DS versions receiving roofs.

The Outlander Pro lineup includes more accessories like hand guards, fender flares, and footwell protectors, while the Outlander XT and Backcountry come with the 10.25″ touchscreen.

“Simply put, the 2027 Can-Am lineup is all about refinement and value,” Can-Am marketing director Jeremi Doyon-Roch said. “At Can-Am, we never rest on our laurels. We are always striving for the ultimate rider experience. From the hardworking Defender XU model to the updated Maverick lineup, the advancements made across our platforms showcase our commitment to delivering greater value for every rider.”
