The Legacy Racing Association made waves earlier in October by unveiling the NORRA Legacy World Championship Series, combining its US-only schedule with that of NORRA’s in Baja.
However, Legacy confirmed Thursday that it will still host its own championship separate of NORRA Legacy. Drivers can compete for either the LRA title, NORRA Legacy, or do both.
“We encourage everyone who can to take part in the NORRA LEGACY World Championship and be part of what’s ahead,” the series said. “Racers can still chase a Legacy season championship without attending the NORRA events in Mexico.”
Three of the six LRA races are under the NORRA Legacy banner. NORRA Legacy will also include NORRA’s three races—the new event in San Felipe, the Baja 10 Day Rally, and NORRA 500.
The season-opening Parker Dam 500 will be run under LRA, NORRA Legacy, and the Outlaw Series West. The lattermost offers youth side-by-side racing, and will also be at Legacy’s Caliente 150.
The biggest change is renaming the Baja Nevada to the Nevada 1000. Despite the name, it is expected to last 1,300 miles in total if one includes the pre-run two weeks prior.
