Henry Favre and Alessandro Iacovelli stole the show at this year’s Dakar Classic when they arrived in a Mitsubishi Delica. It wasn’t exactly fast and they finished at the bottom of the order, but that didn’t matter to them as much as having a good time and making memories.
Unfortunately, what Favre joked was the “least competitve pairing of the Dakar” won’t be back in 2027 since Iacovelli has business obligations to attend to. Iacovelli is the founder of Nodootto, a mountaineering equipment manufacturer.
As for Favre, he plans to take part in an IVECO Eurocargo.
“Yes. I’ll be there again this year,” Favre started. “I managed to speak with the French and get a dedicated route elsewhere: we knew Saudi Arabia by heart by now and the camel nuggets in Al-‘Ula are no longer available, and unfortunately we couldn’t make a deal with the tourism board of Yanbu for the set menu, so we’re off to Africa.”
2026 was Favre and Iacovelli’s second Dakar. After racing a Pajero in 2025, where they finished third from last due to mechanical failure, they built the Delica for 2026. Nicknamed “Truciolo”, it was as comical as it was slow: Favre slapped on Ralliart parody decals comparing the van to those used by chuch choirs, a snowboard for a rear spoiler, and Woody from Toy Story and Nokia 3310s as nerf bars. They lost their bags of snacks and passports on the first stage and was often among the last cars to make it back.
Still, Favre was open on how little he cared about the result and just wanted to have fun. As such, he and Iacovelli mainly went around helping competitors in danger. By the end, they were a very nice 69th for cars and 90th overall, dead last but at the finish.
The Delica was put up for sale in August.
