Dirt City Motorplex is only the second former track to host Championship Off-Road. Unlike MidAmerica Outdoors, it had been on the calendar since the inaugural season in 2020.
COR released its 2027 schedule earlier this week, revealing the addition of a round in Arizona but losing Lena. The Lena Motorsports Club, which oversees the track, confirmed its removal on Monday.
The track is located on private property that was leased to the Lena Motorsports Club by its owner. However, the owner has since sold the land to someone else who isn’t as keen on continuing off-road racing. Rumors suggest that if motorsports were to stick around, it’d likely be drifting rather than short course.
Still, the club is in talks and hopes to at least get the Mayhem at the Motorplex back for 2027. Unlike the Dirt City Off-Road National, the Mayhem is a sportsman class race weekend.
The club gave the following statement:
The Lena Motorsports Club would like to thank our community, our volunteers, racers, spectators, friends, and families who have been part of the Dirt City journey over the past 9 years. What started as a dream became something truly special, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you.
Dirt City was built by racers, for racers. Our goal from the beginning was to keep sportsman racing alive in the Midwest while providing a family-friendly facility that was affordable and welcoming to everyone. It took countless hours of hard work, dedication, and a whole lot of blood, sweat, and soul to build and continually improve the facility. We hope that everyone who attended an event walked away with great memories and a smile on their face.
As many may not know, Dirt City was built on property that Lena Motorsports Club did not own. The facility was established under a long-term lease with the option to purchase the property in the future. Unfortunately, the property owner recently made the decision to sell, and our club was unable to secure the land.
With heavy hearts, we made the difficult decision to not take part in the 2027 Champ Off-Road schedule.
While this is certainly not the direction we had hoped for, we are in discussions with the new property owner regarding their vision and what the future may hold. We remain hopeful that we will be able to bring back the Sportsman Mayhem event in 2027.
Dirt City has always been about more than just racing. While things may look a little different moving forward, everyone from the Lena Motorsports Club can’t thank everyone enough for the memories, friendship, support, and for helping turn our dream into a reality.
