Janey Lee and Kylie Walton are still recovering from the burns they suffered in their massive San Felipe 250 pre-running fire, but both remain hopeful that things will get better.

Walton, who pulled Lee from the driver’s seat of their UTV mid-blaze, had second- and third-stage burns to her hands. After undergoing surgery, she was discharged from the hospital on Sunday and will recover at home.

Lee’s burns are also Stage 2 and 3, but more extensive as they are to her legs, shoulder, and arm. Her left leg received an autograft on Monday. Husband Eric noted that the leg will heal, but it is still a painful process of recovery either way.

On Saturday evening, Walton made her first public post to social media since the fire:

I don’t even know where to begin, but I need to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

To everyone who has reached out, supported us, donated, and kept us in your thoughts and prayers… we feel it. More than I can ever fully put into words. What happened has been incredibly painful and honestly terrifying, but the love and kindness surrounding us right now has been carrying us through some of the hardest moments.

Every message, every prayer, every bit of encouragement, it matters. It’s helping more than you know.

We’re taking this one day at a time. Healing isn’t easy, and most days feel like an uphill battle, but we’re holding onto hope. We know it’s going to be a long road… but the only way out is through.

This will not break me or define me, it will only make me stronger.

Truly, I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you all so much.

The Road 2 Recovery Foundation launched a fundraiser to support the two.
