With the Baja Aragón unable to take place last weekend due to wildfires in the region, the organizers announced Wednesday that it will now take place on September 11–13. The locations and route will remain the same.

The following statement was released:

Following the postponement of the event originally scheduled for last week due to force majeure, the organization has been working closely with international and national motorcycle and car federations, as well as relevant authorities, to reschedule the event as soon as possible.

As a result of this efforts, we can now confirm that the new scheduled date for the event will be next September, from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th, keeping the same format and the headquarters at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Teruel (Exhibition and Congress Palace of Teruel).

The organization appreciates the understanding of all parties involved and regrets any inconvenience caused.

Wildfires have ravaged Spain and France for much of July, exacerbated by the ongoing record heatwaves spanning Europe. According to CNN’s tracker, Spain has already experienced over 370 fires compared to the annual average of 211. Other European states have also been affected, but not to the scale of the aforementioned countries.

The New York Times reported that both countries have been able to contain the blazes near Bordeaux and Madrid, but “the battle was far from over”.

Even with the push back, Aragón remains the fifth round of the FIA World Baja Cup since its next race—the Baja Portalegre 500—is scheduled for October. It also stays as Round 5 of the FIM Bajas World Cup, which doesn’t race again until the Qatar international Baja in late October.

On the other hand, it drops from the fourth race of the European Baja Cup to the sixth as the Hungarian Baja and Baja Poland are in August. This also means a week-long turnaround for the Baja TT Sharish Gin in neighboring Portugal unless that also gets moved.
