May the 4th be with you. It certainly has been with RBI Sport (not this year unfortunately, but it can’t be helped).
The Fenix Rally has been organized by RBI since 2021, taking place in Tunisia as the desert counterpart to RBI’s Rallye Breslau that goes through the forests of Poland. While the route changes annually and the point of this article is moot for 2026, Fenix has enjoyed a warm connection to Star Wars.
As discussed during last year’s Star Wars Day, Tunisia was one of the main filming locations for Tatooine. The area surrounding Tozeur was where Mos Espa and Mos Eisley were located, while the Lars homestead is by Nefta and Chott el Djerid. The sets remain in place today and are popular tourist attractions.
The Lars homestead, where Luke Skywalker grew up and appeared in both A New Hope and the prequels, was a frequent site for the Fenix Rally’s Tozeur stages. Stage 2 of the 2025 race went by the homestead, and was even marked on the roadbooks with relevant jokes.
“Some may call it unprofessional but I call it humor,” one member of the org quipped to 131 Off-Road last year.
Other rallies in Tunisia like the Rallye de Tunisie and Tunisia Desert Challenge have had stages finish outside the film set. It’s not uncommon to see competitors in any of these races, Fenix especially, navigate around vaporators used by Tatooine’s moisture farmers or team personnel wielding lightsabers and wearing costumes.

The 2026 Fenix Rally, scheduled for October 24–30, will not go through Tozeur. Instead, Douz is expected to host much of the rally while Djerba and Monastir are respectively the start and finish. The closest to an SW filming location that the race will pass is Ksar Hadada in Ghomrassen, which was also used for Mos Eisley.
Incidentally, Ghomrassen is one of Tatooine’s moons while Tatouine will be along the Fenix route. As one could probably guess, Tatouine was how the sand planet got its name; it was also part of the 2025 Fenix’s Stage 4 course.
For the podracing fans, the Boonta Eve Classic was filmed in southern Tunisia. The sniper scenes in the race was shot at the same location where Luke is attacked by Tusken Raiders at Maguer Gorge, which is accordingly nicknamed Star Wars Canyon.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer will also have Tatooine as a playable track. Set to release four weeks before Fenix on October 6, it is the franchise’s first standalone racing game since Racer Revenge in 2002.
