PCI Race Radios will trial its new AdvenShare app for Weatherman’s radio communications at the Baja 500 on Saturday.
Launched last Friday for iOS and Android and developed in partnership with Jeremy Ealand, AdvenShare offers live tracking and mapping, and route recording and sharing. Upon starting the app and creating an account, one lands on the map splash page that includes their location and photos uploaded by other users. You can then filter for just the members of your team to know where ethey are in real time and GPS markers.
The “Radio” tab is where team members can communicate with each other. There are also global channels that are available to everyone, which includes the new home for the PCI Weatherman relay. Unlike the VHF relay used by Weatherman in the past, AdvenShare does Internet Protocol which requires either a wi-fi connection or LTE; most teams racing the Baja 500 will communicate via the latter thanks to Starlink.
Once online, the user can relay info by pressing the push-to-talk button.
A social media platform is in development.

“The Weatherman channel will not be running on VHF,” stressed Scott Steinberger. “We will be running the app on two separate ways. One way is our phone number which is (562) 279-0700 and the second way is the new AdvenShare app where you can download and talk to the Weatherman.
“It’s in beta testing, but moving forward, LTE and wi-fi is how you’re going to get a hold of Weatherman.”
The very high frequency channel ended after the San Felipe 250 in March.
