It seems even track designers in a galaxy far, far away know of the splendors offered by the coliseums of speed here on Earth.

Derven Acos, one of the new tracks set to debut in the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Racer, takes a few pages from real-life F1 courses. In particular, its seating sections are based on those found in Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, and Mexico City.

“For the arena and grandstand sections, we took inspiration from some of the world’s most iconic Formula One circuits,” Fuse Games art director Jonathan Rowe explained. “Legendary tracks like the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Sepang International Circuit and Yas Marina Circuit helped shape the feeling of high-speed racing tearing through vast stadium architecture, capturing the energy, spectacle and adrenaline of a truly galactic race day.”

In official materials, Derven Acos is described as a “custom-built arena designed specifically for the racing league. Derven Acos features every planetary condition that racers will have encountered throughout the tour, all combined into a mighty gauntlet that will push a pilot’s skills to the limit. Racers will need nerves of steel and a well-tuned build for the showpiece events of the Galactic League.”

It was revealed in the story trailer that premiered on June 5 at Summer Game Fest.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez currently hosts the Mexico City Grand Prix, which used to be the Mexican GP and an on-and-off stop on the F1 calendar since 1961. Its grandstands are prominently designed around stadium seating, perhaps most notably with the Estadio GNP Seguros baseball park inside the circuit that’s also welcomed the Race of Champions and Stadium Super Trucks.

Sepang was the site of the Malaysian GP from 1999 to 2017. The main grandstand features a giant umbrella awning and an impressive view of the track as cars make the sharp left-hand turn to complete a lap and is a prime passing location.

Yas Marina has been the F1 season-ending Abu Dhabi GP since 2009. While mainly held at night, each of its grandstands are also covered to provide some shade from the Emirati heat.

This isn’t the first time actual circuits were used as a reference for a Star Wars racing game. The 1999 title Episode I: Racer has two tracks on Malastare—the Malastare 100 and Dug Derby—that are respectively identical in layout to Laguna Seca and the NASCAR-configuration Sears Point Raceway (Sonoma). Racer was made by LucasArts, who’s based in San Francisco between the two road courses.

Galactic Racer is set to release on October 6.
