With Dacia on its way out after the 2026 World Rally-Raid Championship, Prodrive will have to look for a new partner. In an exclusive interview with Enrique Naranjo of MARCA, Nasser Al-Attiyah revealed there are some manufacturers that could be in play like Kia and two from China.
Kia used to have a rally raid program at the turn of the millennium, fielding Sportages for drivers like Curt LeDuc and Darren Skilton. The Korean brand was reportedly going to compete in 2026 as part of an alliance with X-raid, though this never materialized.
Al-Attiyah did not mention who the two Chinese brands are, though there has been increasing interest from the country in the sport. Great Wall Motor fielded a star-studded foreign lineup at this year’s Taklimakan Rally and confirms it has the means to build a T1 car for Dakar. Hanwei Motorsport and JJ Sport both have T1+ cars too.
Of course, Al-Attiyah could very well end his partnership with Prodrive too if he gets the right offer.
His Dacia teammates Sébastien Loeb, Lucas Moraes, and Cristina Gutiérrez have not confirmed their 2027 plans either. Loeb confirmed in February that he has spoken with Toyota, though the talks were preliminary in nature.
