To the dismayed understanding of everyone who arrived in Teruel on Wednesday, the Baja Aragón has been postponed due to the high risk of wildfires in the region. A new date has not been finalized.

Race organizers released the following statement:

The Government of Aragon, in compliance with technical reports recommending this action due to the extreme risk of wildfires, has decided not to authorize the event on the scheduled dates.

The Government of Aragon and Esedos Events have agreed to work together to find a suitable date later this year to hold the 42nd edition.

The decision, based on force majeure causes, has closely taken into account the exceptional situation experienced in Aragon over the past few weeks.

The organization understands that, in this situation and given the extreme risk of wildfires, the priority was safety and responsibility on the part of everyone. We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause, and for this reason, we have already begun working to find the best solution.

Along these lines, work is underway on the possibility of rescheduling the event for later in 2026. Therefore, the Government of Aragon, Esedos Events, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEA), and the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation (RFME) will search for the most suitable alternative as soon as possible.

Aragón was the fifth round on the FIA World Baja Cup calendar, the fourth for the European Baja Cup, and fifth for the FIM Bajas World Cup.

The Government of Aragon has confirmed that the Baja España-Aragón 2026, originally scheduled to take place from 24–26 July, has been postponed due to the extreme risk of wildfires across the region.

The decision follows recommendations from the relevant authorities and was agreed during a meeting involving representatives of the Government of Aragon, the City of Teruel, emergency services, forestry officials and the event organiser, Esedos Events & Productions S.L.

The postponement comes in response to forecasts of red alert conditions and an extreme risk of forest fires throughout the province of Teruel and the wider Aragon region. Current conditions include exceptionally high temperatures, strong winds, very low humidity and prolonged dry weather, significantly increasing the likelihood of wildfire outbreaks.

In light of these circumstances, the Government of Aragon determined that postponing the event was the most responsible course of action in order to reduce the risks associated with the large numbers of competitors, officials, spectators and support vehicles that the Baja España-Aragón attracts.

The authorities also highlighted the exceptional wildfire situation experienced across Aragon in recent weeks, which has placed considerable demands on firefighting teams and emergency services. The postponement will help ensure these resources remain available to protect local communities should further incidents occur.

The Government of Aragon will now work closely with the event organiser to identify a suitable alternative date later this year.

Further information regarding the rescheduled event will be communicated in due course.

Spain and France have been battling massive wildfires, their largest in decades, as Europe struggles with rising temperatures and catastrophic heat waves. The Spanish wildfires have resulted in roughly 79 thousand acres burning in Guadalajara, leading to mass evacuations.

The Baja Aragón was supposed to be a weekend of several firsts such as the inaugural race for the MMT EVO5, Pau Navarro in his T1+ debut, and Ténéré Yamaha Rally Team doing a baja for the first time.
